How Tara works
Tara is an AI astrologer, but the AI never does the astrology. Here is who does what, in plain words.
The chart is computed, not guessed
- Your chart is calculated by our own code from your birth date, time and place. The AI never calculates a planet position, a period or a date.
- System: Vedic (sidereal) astrology with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard in India. Houses are whole signs from your rising sign. Periods are Vimshottari dashas.
- Planet positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library, with the Lahiri ayanamsa computed by our own code. We test our charts against Jagannatha Hora, a widely used reference program, before every release.
- Clocks: we use the official time-zone history for your birthplace, and for older births in South Asia we ask you to confirm the clock offset, because local clocks varied before the mid-1950s.
- If you don't know your birth time, we read from your Moon and leave out your rising sign and houses rather than pretend.
The AI explains; it doesn't invent
- For each question, our code picks the chart facts that matter, decides whether they point one way or the other, and sets how confident the answer may be. The AI writes that up in plain English.
- Every claim is tied to a computed fact. Code checks the reply before it is sent: dates, planets and houses must match the facts, and the confidence can't be higher than the facts allow.
- The AI models come from third-party AI service providers; our code, not the AI, decides what the reply may claim.
Every prediction gets a date, and you judge it
- When we predict something checkable, we log it with a date window. After the window closes, we ask you: yes, partly or no.
- Only you decide. Tapbacks and hearts don't count as answers, and the AI never marks its own predictions.
- Misses are shown with the same weight as hits.
- We don't publish an overall hit rate yet. Checking began in October 2026; the number appears once 500 predictions have been answered, even if it isn't flattering.
What we never do
- Never predict death or lifespan, illness, pregnancy or a baby's sex, legal outcomes, exam results or investments.
- Never sell a remedy, gemstone or ritual. The only practices we suggest are free.
- Never use caste, skin colour or dowry. When we compare two charts (coming later), we leave out Varna, the part of traditional matching that ranks people by caste, so our score is out of 35 instead of 36. A score is one input, not a verdict.
What we can't promise
Astrology is a way of reading time, not a law of nature. We can't guarantee any outcome, and nothing here replaces a doctor, lawyer or adviser.
